Custom-made Ecotours

A visitor from Alaska recently commented: "One way or another, I have to come back!", after taking one of the Medicine Hat Interpretive Program's ecotours. He was referring to an Interpretive Program canoe trip he took down the truly spectacular South Saskatchewan River Valley. However, he could have been talking about the marvellous bird watching, glorious sunsets over wide expanses of native prairie, the fantastic diversity of wildlife, geological wonders like Red Rock Coulee, the Cypress Hills, wildflowers galore . . . in short, the captivating natural display that is south-eastern Alberta.
The professional staff at the Program are the acknowledged experts at guiding visitors through our prairie "display", providing in-depth interpretation of what is seen, and going to undiscovered places. We are headquartered at Police Point Park Nature Centre in Medicine Hat, Alberta. The Park, a 400-acre nature preserve, has abundant wildlife and is acknowledged as unique - especially the 300 year old, twisted Plains Cottonwoods. It is a fabulous place to get a taste of the real prairies in a limited time (i.e. 1 or 2 hours).
However, the Interpretive Program offers much more. We have tour packages, plus we will gladly tailor-make outings to suit our guests' desires and interests. We can do tours that offer both natural and cultural history in the same outing - including a river trip in voyageur canoes where you sleep along the wilderness shores in a tepee! Want to explore Battle Creek in the Cypress Hills? Always wanted to see pronghorn (antelope) racing across the prairie - or bison thundering down a hillside towards you? Maybe something as unusual as white-faced ibis nesting on a prairie slough? Or even a tour of old country cemeteries and ghost towns?
We offer the visitor All the splendour and history of one of Canada's most unique areas - the mixed grass prairies and Cypress Hills of southeastern Alberta! Profession nature interpreters are your guide - at reasonable rates - by the hour, half-day, or longer.
